Imporatance of Food Assistance for Everyone

Government aid programs are enacted to provide relief and assistance to persons of the lower economic strata to alleviate their plight and enhance their quality of life.  Programs such as the Food Stamp and the Medicaid are the most easily to identify in the public. In the case of the Food Stamp program, it was introduced during the Great Depression of the 1930s.  This program was created to assist farmers unload their surplus, while at the same time helping the needy deal with the financial crisis of the times. This program was halted in 1943, and it was not until the Food Stamp Act of 1964 that the program became permanent. Since that time, millions of Americans have at one or another made use of this program. As for the Medicaid program, it was enacted in 1965 to provide medical assistance for low income families and individuals.

As life would have it, I was recently told by my mother that she was a recipient of both the Food Stamp and the Medicaid programs. I was shocked! As a child, even though we lived in a garage in my aunt’s house, I never went hungry, and when I became sick, my mom took me to the doctor immediately. Undoubtedly, this might not have possible if it were not by the benefits of these programs, for as a single mother, my mother did not make enough money to provide for me in the manner that she did, as I know to understand it. But my mother is only one of the many millions of people that make use of these programs.

For the past two summers, I have worked in a canvassing program that sells Christian literature going door-to-door. During this time, I have met many people who are being aided by different government programs, such as the Food Stamp and Medicaid programs. Some of them were disabled or elderly and were not able to work, so the only way for them to secure medical services and a proper diet was to enlist in one or both of these programs. According to United States Bureau of Census 49.2% of the population in the United States makes use of some type of government aid program, which constitutes almost half of the people living in this country. Obviously, the quality of life of these families and individuals would not be the same if the programs would not be in place.

To improve the government aid programs, the target range should be broader. To broaden the range is to lower the eligibility of these government aid programs allowing the families in need to be taken care of. But there can be issues with doing so; the funding for the programs. To avoid debt, the money to support the programs should come from a fraction of our income taxes going towards the military. If the fraction of the military funding is redirected to the government aid programs, just a fraction would help improve the lives of United States citizens.

I strongly believe that government aid programs are necessary to provide for the needs of those less fortunate. Society is much stronger and healthy when its citizens are well fed and medically taken care of, and government assistance programs make this possible to a great extent. It is doubtful that the citizenry of the Unites States would be as strong and healthy as it is without these indispensable programs.

Everyon Should Know More About Medicaid Home Care

Government benefit programs such as Lifeline Assistance, Food Stamps, Medicaid and many more are important resources in helping people with financial difficulties. They are important because some families struggle everyday just to find out where their next meal is going to come from and how they are going to pay for their next doctor’s appointment.

Having some experience, my family knows what it is like to struggle with our financial problems. We depended on food stamps just so we could have a meal each day, and Medicaid to pay for necessary doctor appointments. These government benefit programs helped us very much. If we did not have these programs my only meal would have been the free lunch and breakfast from the school cafeteria, and my family would have never been able to afford to go to the doctor.

We could improve these programs by having families on Food stamps receive a coupon on healthier food such as vegetables, and fruits. Receiving this coupon would help these low income families by making it easier to purchase healthier food. ¬Even though these families receive money on their food stamps card each month, does not necessarily mean it will last the whole month.

People complain about these low income families being able to buy items such as sodas, snack cakes, and chips; but what people do not realize is that these financially struggling families purchase these items because it is cheaper. Making these food choices is not exactly healthy but these families try to make their food stamps last for the entire month. Purchasing healthy food choices is more expensive than the unhealthy food choices. If these financially unstable people were able to make healthier food choices America would not have such a big problem with obesity. The healthier the food choices these low income people the longer they can live and have a healthier lifestyle.

Medicaid is very helpful to families struggling to pay for their health needs. Going to the doctor can be pretty pricy, especially for low income people with children or a disability. This program could be improved by making an easier way to have people apply and remain on the program.
In the Medicaid program there is sometimes uncertainty about some of the recipients using the program because the people have to reapply so many times to make sure that they will be insured by the government. Sometimes when the low income person forgets to reapply, they may lose coverage and be uninsured. During that time of being uninsured the person could get very ill without the help of Medicaid.  If Medicaid did not have so much paper work and made the applying process easier more people in America could be covered.

Even though these government assistance programs need improvement, they are important resources to low income families here in the U.S.A because they do not have the money to pay for their own needs. Without these helpful programs there would be many homeless people without any income coming in.These benefit programs help people with financial difficulties get back on their feet and so they can try to make income so they can become financially stable and support themselves.

What is The Best Way To Improve the Effectiveness of Medicaid programs?

People who have financial difficulties do not get to have the luxuries that most people do.  It is hard to afford food, clothing and electricity, the simple things that many Americans take for granted every day. There are many families who work really hard for the income they do receive; unfortunately they still cannot make ends meet.

Prices in the United States have increased significantly over the last few years and it is getting more difficult for everyone to afford even basic needs.  In the United States, from 1914 to 2014, inflation has increased 3.34 percent.  It is getting more complicated every day for families in the United States to survive.

There is good news though for those in need of financial help.  Programs such as Lifeline Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid were created to help those who are in need and who can’t afford the simple necessities of food or even owning a phone.  Lifeline assistance helps those who cannot afford a phone service and provides a discount for those people.Every person should feel the security that a phone brings and experience communication and the technology we encompass today.

Communication links people together and is crucial to assist those individuals in seeking work opportunities. In addition to the security of a phone, food is essential to living.  Food stamps provided by Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), are given to people who are eligible and come from low income families.

Food stamps are given out in card form and can be used at any nearby grocery store to purchase food that would otherwise be impossible.  Our body operates on food and it provides us with the nutrition and energy to live every day and work hard.  Without the help of programs such as SNAP, some families would not obtain the food they need to survive.

In addition to communication and food, another need of financially struggling people is being able to seek medical care.Unfortunately, a lot of people are not able to afford health insurance.  Medicaid was created to allow those who cannot afford health insurance to have the opportunity to do so.  Medicaid is available to those who qualify and may be given either free or low-cost health insurance.  Benefits of Medicaid include inpatient hospital services, home health services and X-rays.

The problem with these programs is not the programs themselves, it is that many people do not know that these programs exist. Yes, there are websites on the internet that allow people to find out if they are eligible for programs such as Lifeline assistance and Medicaid, but not everyone has access to the internet or knows what these websites are. The best way to improve the effectiveness of these programs is to spread the word that they exist. Through some form of or advertising, such as printing them into the newspaper and magazines so that more people could be aware of the help that is available to them.  More people deserve to know that there is help out there because everyone deserves to be picked up and given another chance.
